Matic’s vision system is inspired by human perception, so it can see and understand your home in the same way you do for optimal cleaning. It uses five RGB cameras and powerful computer vision algorithms.
As Matic explores your home for the first time, it uses camera inputs and vision algorithms to create a 3D map. It continuously updates the map as it moves around the home. Using the state-of-the-art SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) algorithms, Matic locates itself in the home and moves around with precision and care. All of these computes happen on the device, so images and audio never leave your home.
Now, Matic can decide what (and how) to clean based on what it sees, and will always be on the lookout to keep your floors clean and shiny.
Our indoor world is entirely designed and built by us, for us, to take advantage of our perception system: two eyes and a visual cortex. So, robots must have a similar perception system to navigate the indoor world effectively and do things on our behalf. That’s why we build Matic with eyes (five RGB cameras) and a visual cortex (vision algorithms & neural network).
There’s a lot that’s different!
Matic’s perception system unlocks a ton of capabilities starting with lifelike 3D maps and using them to precisely track its own location. Because Matic sees and understands your home, it knows what to clean and what not to clean. It can differentiate floor types and spills to adjust from vacuuming to mopping. Matic understands natural language and gesture recognition for even easier user commands.
While some other round and flat robot vacuums do include a camera, they do not have the ability to build lifelike 3D maps. The maps they build are rudimentary 2D floor plans that look like construction blueprints. They lack the information necessary to navigate home effectively. Not to mention, they stream video data to the cloud, which means videos of your home could end up online — yikes!
Instead, Matic processes all the visual data on the device, locally. So your private home data never leaves your home. It’s private by design.
Matic’s unique hardware design includes vacuuming and mopping. It’s able to reach edges and corners and its big wheels can easily traverse common thresholds in your home (like natural tiles, shag rugs, etc.). We also worked really hard to make Matic much quieter than other vacuums, while being equally (if not more) efficient. And its custom-designed HEPA bag is totally mess-free for you.
Yes! In our experience, kids love Matic and pets are curious too. 🙂
We’ve designed Matic to be friendly with its round corners, soft color, and quiet movement. Matic also recognizes people, pets, and kids so it can give them right-of-way.
Matic will automatically vacuum or mop based on the floor type and spill it observes. As a user, you do not need to make mechanical adjustments. You can also tell Matic to vacuum or mop through the app.
Matic's cleaning head has two parts: a brush roll for vacuuming and separate mop roll for mopping. The mop roll is raised, so a damp mop roll won't touch surfaces during vacuuming.
Mopping works great with just water! It holds 600mL, enough to mop 1,300 square feet. The HEPA bag can hold an entire mopping tank of fluid, assuming it was freshly installed at the start of the mopping run.
The HEPA bag holds both the wet and dry waste that Matic collects. It is built using a HEPA H13 grade filter, which captures 99.97% of particles over 0.3 microns in size. The bag also includes sodium polyacrylate (a super absorbent polymer) which absorbs collected mop water to avoid leakage.
The HEPA bag is designed to last about a week with daily vacuuming, or 1,300 square feet of mopping. The frequency of bag replacement will vary based on your usage.
With a full battery, Matic can complete 2.5 hours of vacuuming or three hours of mopping.
Matic was intentionally designed to operate more quietly than a human conversation. Volume perceived will vary depending on external factors such as floor type or distance from the robot.

The mobile app is required for the initial setup, during which the user authenticates the device. Users may set a cleaning schedule, if desired.
The device supports speech-to-text, so after the initial setup you can use it without the app. We will continue to advance the technology so Matic can be used without any mobile device, relying solely on on-device speech-to-text and camera-based processing.
For now, we only support iOS. We plan on adding Android support in the future.
